        Lithium-ion (Also called Li-ion) is a family of rechargeable battery types boasting one of the best energy densities, no memory effect, and a slow loss of charge when not in use. Because of these features, the Li-ion battery powered cordless tools are designed more and more.

  No Memory Effect
  
  Memory effect is the problem that (it's alleged) nickel cadmium rechargeable has whereby they hold less and less charge, depending on use. For example, if a ni-cad battery is not fully discharged, the theory goes that the battery "remembers" that it's got a smaller capacity for charge than the manufacturer intended.
  
  This means, after charge–by-charger, the ni-cad battery will be less and less efficient.

  High energy density
  
  The energy density of lithium-ion is typically twice that of the standard nickel-cadmium. There is potential for higher energy densities. The load characteristics are reasonably good and behave similarly to nickel-cadmium in terms of discharge. The high cell voltage of 3.6 volts allows battery pack designs with only one cell. Most of today's mobile phones run on a single cell. A nickel-based pack would require three 1.2-volt cells connected in series.
  
  Low Self-discharge rate:
  
  A lithium-ion cell is that their rate of self-discharge is much lower than that of other rechargeable cells such as Ni-Cad and Ni-MH forms. You do not need to charge it again after a long time of use, this can save time when you have something urgent to do.
